Introduction: A lot of women have luck (or bad luck) in getting pregnant quite easily. Even if they don’t mean to, they immediately concieve. Some other women, however, have it the other way around and have a completely hard time. If you are among the latter, then you may find yourself seeking help now that you plan to start a family. Here are several steps which you can follow in order to get pregnant naturally.
Difficulty: 3
Things You’ll Need: A partner, prenatal vitamins, supplements and minerals, healthy food
Step 1. The first step to get pregnant is to have a partner. Do you have one already? Well, if you don not have one yet, then go find yourself one first. You can’t expect to make a baby by yourself, can you? If you’re married, then the partner would most likely be your husband (who else?). But if you aren’t, you can have your boyfriend as your partner or even your friend (if in case you just need a donor so that you can have a baby all by yoursef).
Step 2. Stop using birth control. If you’re on the pill or any other form of birth control, now is the time to stop it. Of course, there’s a huge chance that you won’t get pregnant right away once you stop using birth control pills (but you may!) since some birth control methods leave your body to “readjust” before going back to normal.
Women on injectable contraceptives (Depo - Povera) usually don’t become pregnant within a couple months of time. Remember that this speaks for a majority of women, but not all. You may or may not concieve right away. Couples who use barrier methods like the condom, however, find it quicker to concieve once they cease using their birth control method. This is because condoms don’t alter the body chemistry of the woman.
Step 3. Start living healthy. This step does not only apply to you but for your partner as well. It is very important to rid the body of toxins, and avoid stresses that can pose problems with fertility. Here are some things that you and your partner can do:
- Eat a balanced diet. Include foods that are high in anti oxidant content, vitamins and minerals . Choose organic food over the normal ones, since organic foods are free from pesticides, which are linked to fertility problems as well.
- Give Up With The Cigarrettes. Stop smoking right away. Smoking hits two birds with one stone when it comes to concieving since it affects the woman’s ovulation and the man’s sperm count.
- If you’re a coffee drinker, then there’s an extremely huge chance that your habit is causing you fertility problems and increases your possibilites of having a miscarriage. Cut back on your caffeine intake and hold the soda or tea as well.
- Regular exercise keeps you ffit and healthy. It also prepares your body for pregnancy. Exercise helps regulate your sleeping patterns also.
- Sleep More and Sleep Better. People who are deprived of sleep have lower levels of leptin, a hormone that affects ovulation.
Step 4. Vitamins, Minerals and supplements are just as essential. Take them while you’re planning to get pregnant, and continue taking them during pregnancy. Folic acid is a very important vitamin, so take the right amounts. Folic acid helps in the baby’s healthy development inside the womb as well.
Aside from vitamins and minerals, herbs are also making waves as well. Take herbs to balance your hormones. Here are some examples of herbs that are helpful for fertility:
- raspberry leaf
- raspberry leaf
- ginkgo biloba
- saw palmetto
- licorice root.
Remember to consult your doctor first before taking in any of these supplements.
Step 5. Take note of your ovulation and menstruation time. Most women ovulate right in the middle of their menstruation cycle, and you can figure out when yours is by taking note of the first day of your menstruation, as well as how long it is each month. If your menstruation is regular and arrives on time every twenty - eight days, then you can easily assume that your ovulation time is around fourteen days after the first day of your mensturation. This cycle, however, varies among women.
Step 6. Have regular and unprotected sex a couple of days before and around the time that you ovulate. Remember that sperm cells survive for 48 to 72 hours inside the reproductive tract, so have sex on the days leading up to her ovulation time (which would be days 12 to– of the menstrual cycle for an average woman.)
- Mind Your Positions. While this hasn’t been scientifically proven, some positions allow the sperm to be closer to the cervix. Missionary position, for example, with a pillow underneath the hips is one position that is regularly used by many. Try staying in bed at least 30 minutes after having sex in order to increase the sperm’s chances of reaching the egg.
- Relax. Some couples are too pressured and try hard enough to get pregnant that they eventually end up getting stressed out. Try to relax and keep the whole thing fun, and remember to keep the emotional intimacy there.
Step 7. Do a pregnancy check test once you miss your monthly period.
Step 8. Repeat these steps until you get pregnant.
Tips:
- Be consistent and persistent with your pregnancy efforts. Remember to live a healthy lifestyle and take supplements on a regular basis.
- Lighten the mood for sex. Remember to keep sex as a sensual thing, and not just as a chore. Lighten up and don’t feel too pressured when you and your partner have sex
- Always consult a health care provider before you start on anything.
Warnings:
- Beware of pregnancy myths that abound. Read up before you start following any hearsay.
- Have yourself as well as your partner tested for any disease or illness before starting on your endeavors.
